Meet Michelle J. Hairston
Michelle J. Hairston is a lifelong advocate for justice, a dedicated public servant, and a champion for Cook County’s diverse communities. With over 30 years of experience in law, government, and community leadership, Michelle has built a career on one core principle: service above self. As your next Circuit Court Clerk, she will transform the office into a model of accessibility and accountability.
Her Journey
Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Michelle knows the challenges facing our neighborhoods firsthand. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and began her career as a prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she fought tirelessly for victims’ rights and public safety.

- Served as Chief of Staff to the Cook County Board President, overseeing operations for the second-largest county in the U.S.
- Directed community outreach programs, bridging the gap between government and underserved residents.
- Advocated for criminal justice reform, including initiatives to reduce recidivism and support reentry programs.
